Process optimization for the sustainable utilization of bioresources, wastewater recycling, resource recovery, and biotransformation of biomass to bioproducts including biofertilizers, industrial enzymes, and biopolymers employing microalgae/cyanobacteria/fungi as microbial cell factories in a multiproduct biorefinery paradigm. To develop low-carbon or carbon-neutral novel bioprocesses for the agriculture and bioindustry, while keeping the Energy-Water-Environment-Food nexus sustainable. Harnesing algae for food, feed, functional foods, nutraceuticals.
I have completed several national and internal research projects, supervised PhD/MS research students, and served several research journals as Editor and Member Editorial Board.
I was awarded Research Productivity Awards (one of the most prestigious academic awards in Pakistan) for the year 2011, 2012 and 2014 by Pakistan Council for Science & Technology, and Young Leaders Award 2017 by Positive Pakistan. I have received the Outstanding Research Award from Government College University Faisalabad in the years 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022, and was honored with the Gold Medal in Biotechnology by the Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan in 2022. Moreover, in 2019, I was honored with the highest province-level academic title “The Distinguished Expert” by Sichuan government, China.
